The Best Care Starts with the Best CaregiversThe Small Animal Cardiology department offers state of the art diagnostic and surgical procedures and techniques, and is dedicated to providing the highest level of care and service to animals. We work in a collaborative, academic teaching environment with highly credentialed faculty veterinarians, who seek to educate veterinary students, referring veterinarians, and pet owners in cardiac management.What you’ll do:Preparing patients (dogs, cats, horses and other large animal and exotic animal species) for, and assisting with a variety of cardiology examsAssisting with the care of hospitalized patients including C-arm and power injector manipulation, and gathering surgical supplies for procedures.Performing and educating veterinary students and house staff about blood sample collection, IV catheter placement, injections, blood pressure measurements, 12-lead ECG recording, Holter placementOrienting students on clinical cardiology rotationCentralizing messages from rDVM and clients, including medication refill requests, collect lab work results and pass messages onto the appropriate staff member
Responsibilities + Skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain accurate records of patients, both in written and electronic form (Electronic Medical Record); ability to work collaboratively in a professional manner at all times.Ability to utilize, or learn to utilize, multiple computer programs as required to EMR and data collection.Must be patient and have strong animal handling skills.
Education
Associates degree in Veterinary Technology and NYS licensure with one to two years of experience as an LVT or equivalent combination of education and experience
