Job Description
This position will serve as the Temporary Fruit & Vegetable Prescription Program (FVRx) Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County for Summer 2023 and will implement FVRx programming for existing local food educational programs and program activities. Program topics will include but are not limited to: food and nutrition throughout the lifecycle, food preparation, food preservation, local food resource programs (for consumers and producers), implementation of SNAP-EBT at farmers market, creating linkages between consumers and producers, and working with area producers and brick and mortar retail sites throughout the North Country to advance the local food system. This position will facilitate FVRx activities, both on-site and off-site, in the community, which include but are not limited to educational opportunities, technical assistance, business development, and promoting and creating links between consumers/end users and agricultural sectors throughout the six county North Country (and SNAP-Ed) region in accordance with the Nutrition Program Area’s plan of work. This position will also coordinate all administrative aspects of the FVRx Programs which includes securing new partnerships, training redemption site staff on agreed upon protocols, coordinating efforts with other regional staff involved in FVRx work, regular check-ins with redemption sites, and tracking of FVRx produce voucher redemption and reimbursement and monthly reporting updates. This position will also assist the Nutrition Program Manager with marketing efforts for Nutrition and FVRx programming, to include this environmental change initiative in collaboration with other nutritionists of the SNAP-ED program in the North Country Region. Education
Familiarity with purchasing and preparing foods, utilizing business expense accounts and pragmatic use of resources.Familiarity with reviewing and following recipes and food safety measures in compliance with federal and state guidelines.
