Job Description
The Production Manager manages the day-to-day operation of the New Haven Production Department of Yale University Press. This individual oversees the scheduling and purchasing of composition and manufacturing services for New Haven frontlist general-interest and academic titles and is directly responsible for meeting quality standards, budgets, and schedules. The Production Manager stays on top of changes in technology and industry standards for print and digital production; researches, proposes, and evaluates new vendors; and approves vendor estimates and invoices. In addition, the Production Manager provides custom production estimates for titles with unusual specifications, such as color illustrations or non-standard trim sizes.The Production Manager works closely with the Director of Publishing Operations, Managing Editor, and Art Director to ensure efficient and coordinated workflow across the Editorial, Design, and Production departments, establish procedures, allocate resources and budgets, and implement strategies.

Education
As supervisor of two Production Controllers, the Production Manager assigns titles to them; and also acts as a Production Controller, solely managing the production of one-third of Yale University Presss new trade and academic titles (4550 new titles annually), including highly complex 4-color titles, scholarly editions, reference works, and heavily illustrated books.
