DescriptionThe Department of English at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position in English Education with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2024. We are interested in English Education candidates with a specialty in secondary literacies for underrepresented students, such as the ethnically and linguistically diverse student populations we serve in Arizona. This position will focus on how secondary literacy learning environments and/or secondary literacy pedagogical practices frame, change, or interrupt existing learning systems to create equitable and productive literacy opportunities for students. Secondary research areas could include: culturally sustaining pedagogies, Indigenous secondary literacies, Latine secondary literacies, young adult literature, secondary writing, secondary reading, and ELA teacher training.The successful candidate will join a dynamic English Education faculty working to advance innovative research and inclusive excellence in teaching through its work with the undergraduate and graduate student population we serve at ASU. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research in areas of expertise and publish scholarship in top-tier outlets, teach English Education courses at the undergraduate and graduate (Master’s and doctorate) levels (including online), and provide service to the institution and the profession.We invite you to learn more about the Department of English, The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Arizona State University.

Evidence of a research agenda and potential for publicationsEvidence of potential to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, such as Methods of Teaching English: Language, Methods of Teaching Writing, Teaching Texts, Young Adult Literature, and Research Methods in English Education.
Experience
Evidence of specialty in secondary literacy for underrepresented students, such as ethnically and linguistically diverse student populationsEvidence of 3 years teaching secondary English Language Arts or equivalentEvidence of work with pre-service or in-service ELA teachers
